Salaora - a quiet place

My parents met nearby this quite and peaceful place Salaora in the Amvrakikos gulf, during the summer of 1963. My father was long, blonde and handsome young man and my mother short and with that Mediterranean look. They met through mutual friends and after a few weeks they got married and went abroad to make themselves a new future. The move abroad happens to many Greeks today as well, however back then it was of course a gigantic step to the big wide world at least for my mother and her first journey abroad..

Salaora, Amvrakikos gulf

Amvrakikos gulf is a quiet place with 250 km coastline in the north west of Greece. According to naturelovers Amvrakikos has 20 lagoons hosts more than 160 species of birds, many species of fish, turtles (Caretta - Caretta) and dolphins. Here in Salaora and Koronisia village you can find the traditional hamlets of the local fishermen who still use the old fishing methods. Traditional fish taverns serve local fish such as sardines, prawns mullets, eels and cuttlefish.
